Automatic transmission allows for effortless driving, while a host of other premium features redefine comfort and safety in the premium SUV segment

Kathmandu: Vijay Motors, Sole Distributor for Nepal for General Motors has finally released onto the roads of Nepal its long awaited and state-of-the-art Chevrolet Captiva Automatic+ premium Sports Utility Vehicle.

The front wheel drive version of the Chevrolet Captiva was introduced in India in January 2008. GM sold 3.385 units last year, making it one of the country’s most popular SUV.

The Chevrolet Captiva comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 150 bhp. Power is something that every vehicle owner knows plenty about. With 150 PS powering the wheels, the Captiva is never short of grunt. But as people in power know, power is nothing without control. That’s why the Captiva Automatic is doused with a host of intelligent systems to keep this Chevrolet in line, literally.

The Captiva Automatic+, as the name suggests, offers the convenience of an automatic transmission and hassle-free motoring for discerning consumers. In addition, the SUV comes equipped with Adaptive All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP), which incorporates technologies like the Descent Control System (DCS) and Traction Control System, making it a truly outstanding companion on and off the road.

The Captiva has been a runaway success in India since its launch last year, and has won a series of prestigious awards such as Business Standard Motoring’s Import Car of the Year award, UTVi-Autocar India’s Best SUV award and CNBC-Overdrive’s SUV of the Year award. The new Chevrolet Captiva Automatic+ brings superlative comfort and ease of driving, combined with unbeatable value, safety, security and luxury to our customers.

Plus on Convenience
The new Chevrolet Captiva Automatic+ comes with an intelligent transmission system that changes gears automatically and on the fly by selecting gear patterns according to driver input and terrain conditions. For enhanced grip in slippery conditions, the driver can switch over to “winter mode” to maintain a stable and smooth drive.

Plus on Technology
All Wheel Drive (AWD): The new Captiva’s AWD is adaptive in nature, with a torque-sensing electronically controlled coupling that allows engine torque to be automatically redirected to individual axles based on driving and terrain conditions. The drivability and handling of such an adaptive AWD system is better than normal AWD systems.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP): ESP intervenes in situations where stability may be lost and prevents roll-over or skidding while driving so that passenger safety is not compromised at any time.
Descent Control System: This innovative system regulates downhill speed and allows a controlled descent without the need to constantly apply brakes to trim momentum.
Traction Control: With traction control, the new Captiva detects imminent rear wheel spin during acceleration, reducing engine torque if required, so that traction and road contact are maximised at all times.
Automatic Level Ride Control: The Captiva’s self-leveling suspension technology ensures optimum level ride control, irrespective of the load being carried.
Plus on Power
The Captiva features a next-generation, variable geometry common rail direct injection (VCDi) diesel engine delivers 150 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful and frugal SUVs in its segment.
“The Chevrolet Captiva Automatic+ is all about economical, refined and power-packed diesel performance combined with spacious luxury and fantastic road presence,” said Mr. Slym.  “When you add it all up, it offers everything any discerning Indian car buyer could want in the premium SUV space - and most importantly, at a price point that represents incontestable value for money.”
Plus on Styling
The Captiva is a study of taut automotive dynamism in its design execution. With its boldly contoured hood, aggressive clear-lens projection headlamps and eye-catching grille featuring a prominent Chevrolet bowtie, the Captiva is sure to turn heads wherever it is driven.
In profile, the Captiva comes across as both rugged and sophisticated. Bold wheel arches, wide tyres mounted on alloy wheels and a sharp feature line across the length of the Captiva add to the masculinity of its stance, while subtle chrome highlights and a bold coupe-style rear window treatment add feline grace to the overall visual package. The Captiva’s strong rear design is dominated by a large tailgate and substantial vertical tail lamps with indicators and reversing lamps contained in circular elements. Below, twin chrome exhaust pipes complement its sporty looks.
Plus on Accommodation
The Captiva has been designed to maximise space.  It has a 5 + 2 Flexi seat configuration that comfortably accommodates seven adults and can be transformed into a versatile and adaptable luggage carrier in a flash. Its unique, fold-flat seating arrangement provides up to 1,565 liters of cargo volume.
Practicality has also been accorded priority. The Captiva incorporates convenience features such as remote-operated tailgate glass for quick access and many thoughtful storage solutions, including a large wet/dry area beneath the load compartment floor, a glove box cooler, a deep centre console bin, a rear centre console storage area and handy door bins.
Other convenience features include bottle holders, small item/coin and cup holders, a parking ticket holder, an overhead sunglasses compartment, seatback pockets and a dual-compartment sliding driver’s armrest. The Captiva also features three 12-volt power outlets that are accessible to all passengers. The Captiva’s all-leather beige interior and matching cabin exude total luxury, while an integrated 2-DIN CD/MP3 player with six speakers provides an extremely pleasurable listening experience. Tinted automatic windows, power mirrors, an eight-way power adjustable driver seat and an electronic climate control system with particle filter are all standard.
Plus on Safety
GM engineers made safety a priority in the Captiva. Driver and front passenger airbags, front seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters, and height-adjustable front seatbelts come standard. The Captiva’s four-channel ABS with brake assist-equipped discs intelligently assists with pedal pressure when it detects an emergency braking situation. The rigid high-strength body shell of the Captiva has been optimised to distribute crash forces over defined load paths to help protect the integrity of the passenger safety cell.
Plus on poise
Through a concerted development effort, the Captiva has been configured to tackle Indian roads, with completely optimised ride and handling characteristics. The result is a comfortable and stable vehicle that can easily take on varying local driving conditions. Despite its SUV pedigree, the Captiva is ideal for urban commutes. Its trim exterior proportions offer class-leading maneuverability in everyday driving conditions. The power steering system has been tuned for quick response, precise road feel and optimum driver feedback. The Captiva features a four-link independent rear suspension system and MacPherson struts up front. Suspension settings have been carefully calibrated to deliver car-like ride and handling even on imperfect road surfaces.
A unique feature of the Captiva is its level ride suspension system, which automatically maintains nominal ride height under differing load conditions – a feature that offers assured road clearance as well as optimal ride quality for passengers. It may be recalled that the manual transmission, front-wheel drive version of the Chevrolet Captiva was introduced in India in January 2008.  GM has sold 2,385 units last year, making it one of the country’s most popular SUVs in India as of today.
