ग्रिस्मा ब्रोडकास्टिङको आयोजनामा बुधबार पोखरा अमरसिंह चोकमा सप्तरंग सांगीतिक कार्यक्रम हुने भएको छ । पर्यटन प्रवर्धन र समुन्नति नारा सहित कार्यक्रममा महानायक राजेश हमाल, नेपाल आइडलका विजेता रवि ओड, मेलिना राई, हास्य कलाकार जितु नेपाल, हिमाल सागर, सुगम पोखरेल र प्रकाश सपुतको प्रस्तुति रहने छ ।
कार्यक्रमको स्थानीय आयोजक बार्दली मिडियाका मन क्षेत्रीका अनुसार सप्तरंग सांगीतिक कार्यक्रम देशका अन्य ६ प्रदेशमा भएपछि पोखरा हुन लागेको हो । ‘सुरुमा प्रदेश १ गतेबाट सुरु भएको यो कार्यक्रम प्रदेश नम्बर ५ सुर्खेत पछि गण्डकी प्रदेशमा समापन हुन लागेको हो,’ उनले भने, ‘गत वर्ष पनि पहिलो संस्करणको कार्यक्रम गरेका थियौं । त्यति बेला पनि कार्यक्रममा दर्शकको राम्रो सहभागी थियो ।’
कार्यक्रम बुधबार पोखरा अमरसिंह चौरमा साँझ ४ बजेपछि सुरु हुनेछ । प्रवेश निशुल्क गरिएको कार्यक्रममा नेपाल पुलिस क्लब, बिटुडी डान्स स्कुलको समेत प्रस्तुति रहने क्षेत्रीले जानकारी दिए । अघिल्लो संस्करणमा रामकृष्ण ढकाल, पशुपति शर्मा, प्रमोद खरेल, इन्दिरी जोशी, सन्दीप क्षेत्री, दीपक विष्ट र अञ्जली अधिकारीको प्रस्तुति रहेको थियो ।

मनोरम तथा ऐतिहासिक स्थल राईनासकोटका होमस्टेका सञ्चालहरुलाई होमस्टे पर्यटन व्यवस्थापन तालिम प्रदान गरिएको छ । लम्जुङको राईनास नगरपालिका स्थित प्रसिद्ध पर्यटकीय स्थल राईनासकोटमा रहेको राईनास होमस्टेका सञ्चालकहरुलाई गाऊ पर्यटन प्रबद्धन मञ्च, नेपालको आयोजना र पर्यटन बोर्ड पोखराको सहकार्यमा २ दिने तालिम प्रदान गरिएको हो ।

भुकम्पले क्षेतिग्रस्त बनेको राईनासकोट वस्ती पुननिर्माण गरिए सँगै होमस्टेको रुपमा विकास भएको छ । भूकम्पपछि राईनासकोटमा सबिधा सम्पन्न होमस्टे सञ्चालनका लागि आवश्यक पर्ने १४ घर, एक आरोग्य भवन र एक सामुदायिक भवन निर्माण गरिएको छ । भौतिक संरचना संगै होमस्टेमा पाहुनाहरुको बृद्धि हुन थालेपछि पाहुनाको ब्यबस्थापन, मनोबिज्ञान, होमस्टेमा आवश्यक पर्ने मौलिकता, सस्कार,सस्कृति लगाएतका बिषयमा तालिम लिईएको गाँऊ पर्यटन प्रबद्धन मञ्च, प्रदेश नं ४ का सस्थापक अध्यक्ष तारानाथ पहारीले जानकारी दिए ।

तालिम समापन समारोहको अवसरमा प्रदेश नं. ४ का उद्योग,पर्यटन,वन तथा वातावरण मन्त्री विकास लम्सालले होमस्टे गाँउ पर्यटनको अभिन्न अगं भएको बताउदै प्रदेश सरकारले ३० करोड रकम होमस्टे पर्यटन पूर्वाधार विकासको लागी छुट्टाएको जानकारी दिए । २०२२ मा २५ लाख पर्यटक भित्र्याउने सरकारको लक्ष्य सम्म पुग्न होमस्टेको भुमिका महत्वपुर्ण उनले बताए । गुरुङ जातीको बस्ती रहेको राईनासकोटमा उनीहरुको कला, सस्कृतिलाई जोगाउन संग्राहलयको व्यवस्थापन गर्दै गाँउमै उत्पादिन खाद्य वस्तुहरु होमस्टेमा आउने पर्यटकहरु लाई खुवाउन सकेमा मात्र यस ठाँउ पर्यटकको पहिलो गन्तव्य स्थल बन्न सक्ने धारणा राखे । होमस्टेमा आउने पर्यटकहरुको तथ्याङ राख्न मन्त्री लम्सालको सुझाव थीयो । गण्डकी प्रदेशको विकास र समृद्धीको लागी ग्रामिण पर्यटन पूर्वाधार लाई आफुले जोड दिएको उनले बताए ।

नेकपाका केन्द्रिय सदस्य एवम् प्रदेश सभा सदस्य मायानाथ अधिकारीले राईनासको दिगो बिकासका लागि आफुले जुनसुकै मुल्य चुकाउन पनि पछि नपर्ने बताउदै राईनासकोट क्षेत्र विकासको लागी आफु निरन्तर लाग्ने प्रतिबद्दता जनाइन् । अर्का प्रदेश सभा सदस्य धन्ञजय दवाडीले गाँउको बिशेषता पहिचान गरेर होमस्टे सञ्चालन गर्नुपर्ने भन्दै अर्गा्निक खाना,बिभिन्न संस्कृति लाई जोड दिएर होमस्टे सञ्चालन गर्नुपर्ने बताए । यसले गर्दा आन्तरिक तथा बाह्य पर्यटकले राईनासकोट भरिभराउन हुने र यस ठाँउको उन्नती र प्रगति हुने उनको भनाई थीयो ।

प्रदेश सभा सदस्य मधु अधिकारीले गाँउ पर्यटन लाई पहिलो प्रथामिकतामा राखेर सरकारले नयाँ कार्ययोजान बनाउनुपर्नेमा जोड दिदै रोजगारी सिर्जना गर्ने गरी होमस्टे सञ्चालन गर्नुपर्ने बताए । गाँऊ पर्यटन प्रबद्र्धन मञ्चका संस्थापक अध्यक्ष एवम् पर्यटनविद्ध प्रेम शर्माले विगतको शैली परिर्वतन गर्दै होमस्टे सञ्चालन गर्नुपर्ने बताए । उनले पर्यटन निजी क्षेत्रले चलाउनुपर्ने र सरकारले पूर्वाधारको व्यवस्था गर्नुपर्नेमा जोड दिए । राईनासकोटमा रहेका केही पुराना घरलाई पौराणीक महत्व झल्काउन पहिलैकै स्वरुपलाई सुरक्षितसँग राखिएको छ । पुनःनिर्माण र वातावरणमैत्री अवधारणा पनि सँगसँगै शुरु भएको छ । अवधारणाअनुसार गोबर ग्यास, धुवाँरहित चुलोे, फोहोरमैला र पानीको व्यवस्थापनका लागि काम भइरहेको छ । त्यसैगरी राईनासकोट प्रवद्र्धनका लागि एग्रोटुरिजम अवधारणा पनि सँगसँगै बढाइएको छ । 

भरतपोखरी विकास मञ्चको उद्घोषक तालिम सम्पन्न

लेखनाथ ,२८ वैशाख। पोखरा लेखनाथ ३३ मा रहेका भरतपोखरी विकास मञ्चले संचालन गरेको ३ दिने उद्घोषण तालिम शुक्रवार सम्पन्न भएको छ । महिलाहरुलाई लक्षीत गरी कुनै पनि सभा सम्मेलनमा ढुक्कसँग बोल्ने बानीको विकास गराउने उदेश्यले आयोजना गरिएको उद्घोषक तालिम समापन समारोहमा बोल्दै कोप्स नेपालका महासचिव रामचन्द्र शर्माले मञ्चले भविश्यमा पनि यस प्रकारका तालिमहरु राखेर सामाजिक उत्तरदायित्व बहन गर्नु पर्ने वताएका थिए ।प्रशिक्षक शुष्मा पौडेलले  तालिमबाट  प्रशिक्षार्थीहरुमा ढुक्कसग कार्यक्रमहरु संचालन गर्न सक्ने विश्वास ब्यक्त गरेकी थिईन । कार्यक्रममा सहभागीहरुको तर्फबाट सरिता ढकाल, प्रमिला रानाभाट,कल्पना विक, रुवि वास्तोला,जमुना नेपाली राधा वाग्ले लगाएतले तालिमले आफुहरुलाई भविश्यमा उद्घोषक बन्न प्रेरणा मिलेको बताएका थिए ।  भरतपोखरी विकास मञ्चका अध्यक्ष डिल्लिराम बरालको अध्यक्षतामा सम्पन्न कार्यक्रममा संयोजक विजया भण्डारीले कार्यक्रम सञ्चालन गरेकी थिइन् भने विहानी वचत तथा ऋण सहकारीका सचिव किरण पोखे्रल लेखनाथ पत्रकार मञ्चका सचिव नेशनल एफ  एमका समाचार वाचक विष्णुहरि पौडेल लगाएतले वोलेका थिए  । तालिममा २२ जना महिलाहरुको सहभागीता रहेको थियो ।

         सामुदायिक संचार केन्द्र कास्कीद्धारा संचालित सामुदायिक रेडियो गण्डकी ९०.२ मेगाहर्जले आफ्नो नबौं बार्षिकोत्सवको अबसरमा साइकल ¥याली र शुभकामना आदान प्रदानसंगै गण्डकी पत्रकारिता पुरस्कार वितरण गर्ने भएकोछ । फागुन १९ गते बुधबार विहान ७ बजे साइकल ¥याली र  ११ बजेपछि विशेष समारोह हुने रेडियोले जनाएको छ ।
      रेडियोले बार्षिकोत्सवमा यस पटक साइकल ¥यालीको आयोजना गर्न लागेको रेडियोका अध्यक्ष अग्निप्रसाद कँडेलले जानकारी दिनुभएको छ । ¥यालीमा   साइकल सिटीको संस्थागत सहभागिता रहनेछ भने पोखराका कलेज तथा विद्यालयका बिद्यार्थीहरु, सघसंस्था, बैकर, स्वास्थ्यकर्मी, सरकारी कर्मचारी, सञ्चारकर्मी, सुरक्षाकर्मी, उधोगी ब्यबसायी, पर्यटन ब्यबसायी, समाजसेवी लगायतको सहभागिता रहने कँडेलले बताउनुभयो ।
मानिसलाई स्वास्थ्य राख्न र शुन्दर पोखरालाई स्वच्छ राख्न साइकल उपयोगी हुने भन्दै सञ्चार गृहका प्रबन्ध निर्देशक लक्ष्मण गुरुङले साइकल ¥यालीमा स्वतःस्फुर्त रुपमा पनि सवै सहभागी हुन सक्ने बताउनुभयो ।

हिमाल पारिको मुस्ताङ जिल्ला पूर्ण खोप जिल्ला घोषणा भएको छ । घोषणासँगै मुस्ताङ देशकै बाह्रौं तथा हिमाल पारिको पहिलो पूर्ण खोप जिल्ला बन्न सफल भएको जन स्वास्थ्य कार्यालय मुस्ताङका खोप अधिकृत बद्री आचार्यले जानकारी दिए ।

जिल्ला विकास समिति मुस्ताङको आयोजनामा शनिबार सदरमुकाम जोमसोममा आयोजित एक कार्यक्रममा सांसद श्रीमाया थकालीले मुस्ताङलाई पूर्ण खोप जिल्ला घोषणा गरेकी हुन् । कार्यक्रममा बोल्दै उनले मुस्ताङ दुर्गम र हिमाली जिल्ला भएर पनि पूर्ण खोप जिल्ला बन्न सकेको भन्दै खुशी व्यक्त गर्नुका साथै यसलाई कायम राख्न चुनौतिपूर्ण रहेको बताईन् । उनले भनिन्,–‘मुस्ताङलाई पूर्ण खोप बनाईराख्न यसको घोषणामा जस÷जसले सघाउनुभयो, तपाईं सबैले निरन्तरताका लागि पनि सघाई राख्नुपर्छ ।’

मुस्ताङका स्थानिय विकास अधिकारी हरिप्रसाद बास्तोलाको अध्यक्षतामा भएको कार्यक्रममा पश्चिमाञ्चलका क्षेत्रीय प्रशासक केदारबहादुर अधिकारीले पनि बोलेका थिए ।

    पर्यटक प्रहरीमा कार्यरत प्रहरी कर्मचारीहरुलाई पर्यटक मैत्री बनाउदै लैजाने उद्देश्य अनुरुप बिभिन्न बिदेशी भाषाको प्रशिक्षण दिदै जाने योजना अनुसार जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालय कास्कीको संयोजनमा,माउण्ट कैलाश रिसोर्ट,द यात्रा होटल,बुमराङ रेष्टुरेण्ट र रेवान पोखराको सहयोगमा पर्यटक प्रहरी उपशाखा पोखरामा कार्यरत ८ जना प्रहरी कर्मचारीहरुलाई बिभिन्न भाषा सिक्नको लागि पोखरा सिद्वार्थचोकमा रहेको के।एफ। एजुकेशन सेण्टरमा २०७१।१०।४ गते देखि साढे दुई महिना अवधीको भाषा प्रशिक्षण संचालन गरिएको छ । यसले भबिष्यमा  पोखरा भ्रमणमा आएका बिदेशी पर्यटकहरुमा पर्न सक्ने समस्याहरुको बारेमा बुझ्न र तिनीहरुमा परेका समस्या समाधानको लागि सहयोगी हुने बिश्वास लिईएको छ । यसरी संचालन गरिएका भाषाहरुमा अंग्रेजी,जापानिज र फ्रेन्च रहेका छन् ।

पोखरा, ३० भाद्र, साहासिक खेल बन्जी जम्पको कास्कीको हेम्जामा सफल परिक्षण भएको छ । हाईग्राउण्ड एडभेन्चर नेपाल प्रालिले पोखरामा शुरु गर्न लागेको बन्जी जम्पको सफल परिक्षण भएको हो । पहिले ७० केजिको सामानलाई फालेर परिक्षण गरीएको र पाचँ दिन देखि प्राविधिक र कमचारीहरुलेले बन्जी जम्प गरेको प्रालिका अप्रेसन म्यानेजर दिनेश मर्हजनले गन्थन डटकमलाई जानकारी दिए ।

पोखरामा बन्जी जम्पको सफल परिक्षण, एक सातामा शुरु हुने

जिप फ्लायरको सफलतासंगै पोखरामा अर्को साहासिक खेल बन्जी जम्प संचालनमा ल्याउन लागेको हो । बन्जी जम्प निमार्णको काम सकिएको बताउदै मर्हजनले एक सातामा अथार्त सेक्टेम्बर २१ तारिकबाट सन्चालनमा आउनले बताए । करीब ७० फिट उचाइको टावरबाट बन्जी जम्प गर्न सकिने भएको छ । ७० फिट उचाइको टावर बनाउन करिब २० फिटको टावर बनाएको छ भने करीब १८ फिट गहिरो पौडी पोखरी बन्दै गरेको उनको भनाई छ । पोखरी स्थानीय खोलाको पानीलाई प्रयोग गरिएको छ ।

बन्जी जम्प निमार्ण गर्न करीब ७ करोड लगानी भएको छ भने यस अगाडी जिप लाइनका लागी करिब १३ करोड खर्च भएको थियो । पर्यटकीय क्षेत्र सराङकोटको डाँडाबाट कास्कीको हेम्जा याम्दीसम्म १ किलोमिटर ८ सय मिटरसम्मको दुरीमा जिपफ्लायरको दुरी रहेको छ । सराङकोटको टावरबाट हेम्जाको याम्दीमा रहेको अर्को टावरसम्म २ वटा केवल तन्काईएको र त्यसैबाट झर्ने ब्यवस्था मिलाईएको हो । तस्विर: राजेश लम्साल

पोखरा, २३ भाद्र /साहासिक खेल बन्जी जम्प दुई साता भित्र पोखरामा सन्चालन हुने भएको छ । हाईग्राउण्ड एडभेन्चर नेपाल प्रालिले पोखरामा बन्जी जम्प शुरु गर्न लागेको हो ।  जिप फ्लायरको सफलतासंगै पोखरामा अर्को साहासिक खेल बन्जी जम्प संचालनमा ल्याउन लागेको प्रालिका अप्रेसन म्यानेजर दिनेश मर्हजनले बताए । उनले १० पछि पोखराको हेम्जामा निमार्ण भएको बन्जी जम्पको सन्चालान आउने बताए । बन्जी जम्प निमार्णको करीब ९५ प्रतिशत काम पुरा भएको मर्हजनले बताए ।

करीब ७० फिट उचाइको टावरबाट बन्जी जम्प गर्न सकिने भएको छ । ७० फिट उचाइको टावर बनाउन करिब २० फिटको टावर बनाएको छ भने करीब १८ फिट गहिरो पौडी पोखरी बन्दै गरेको उनको भनाई छ । पोखरी स्थानीय खोलाको पानीलाई प्रयोग गरिने उनले गन्थन डटकमलाई जानकारी दिए ।

andering around the street of Hemja with his unusually, bizarre funny kind of clothes on,  Ram Bahadur Pariyar has a different story unlike ours. He prefers to be called as Sikka Baba. One can see him walking around Tibetan Camp of Hemja with his weird looking dress full of coins, similar looking hat, with his ears pierced like grandmothers’, two flags of Nepal on each side on his arm, some metal bangles, big swag chain on his neck and lastly an old camera hanging around his neck. 

The inspiration behind this was, he had this strange dream one day, where he was wearing clothes with lots of coins sticking onto it. Then he started having the same dream again and again. So, he decided to live his life differently. During his 44 years of lifetime, he spent half of his age travelling all around 68 districts of Nepal. He started collecting coins and started sticking them on his clothes. He first started with his cap, then on his coat and later on his whole clothes. He claims that he has in total of 20 set of such clothes and they were all designed and sewed by himself. All the time, he is seen wearing his uniquely designed costume and he says he feel comfortable on them unlike other colthes. His clothes contain coins of 180 countries so far, mostly from Nepal. He has even got ancient coins of Nepal which we can see only in the museum. 

His further plans are to visit the remaining districts in Bagmati and Karnali. He says that most of his expenses are provided by the local V.D.C. he visits. Because of his clothes and his life stories he tells to people, he doesn't have to worry about his rent and food I guess.

Besides his coin collecting part, he stated that he is deeply concerned about World Peace & Development. And apart from his different life from us, his view on the Nepalese government is similar to ours, not a happy one.

घार्मीमा पनि सद्बीज छरियो,

 कास्कीको लामाचौर गाविस स्थित धार्मिक तथा पर्यटकीय क्षेत्र घार्मीमा यस वर्ष पनि बालाचर्तुदशी पर्वका अवसरमा सद्वीज छर्ने कार्य सम्पन्न भएको छ ।
 स्थानीय ओमकारेश्वर महादेव मन्दिर व्यवस्थापन समितिले आयोजना गरेको कार्यक्रममा त्यस क्षेत्रका भक्तजन तथा छिमेकी गाविस अर्मला, पुरञ्चौर, भलाम, सार्दीखोला, हेम्जा र पोखराका विभिन्न क्षेत्रबाट पुगेका भक्तालुहरुले आफ्ना पितृको सम्झना गरी मन्दिर परिसरमा सद्वीज छरेका थिए ।
भजन किर्तन र बाजागाजा सहित आयोजना गरिएको कार्यक्रममा समाजसेवी टासी लामाले मन्दिर व्यवस्थापनका लागी १० हजार रुपयाँ र ओम साइराम लामाचौरका प्रमुख इश्वर वैद्यले जीन्सी सहित २ हजार ५ सय सहयोग हस्तान्तरण गर्नुभएको समाजसेवी नन्दराज दाहालले जानकारी दिनुभयो ।साँझ सम्म पनि मन्दिरमा पूजा गर्ने र सदविज छर्न मन्दिर परिसरमा भत्तालुहरुको घुईँचो लागेको थियो ।साईराम र स्थानिय भजन मण्डलीले दिनभर जसो भजन किर्तन गरेका थिए ।त्यस क्षेत्रमा पुगेका भतmजनहरुले घार्मीलाई धार्मिक पर्यटकिय क्षेत्रको रुपमा विकास गर्न स्थानिय वासिन्दालाई सुझाव दिएका छन ।

पोखरा, १४ भाद्र /अफ्सिजन लागेर बन्द भएको पोखरामा जिप फ्लाएर आइतबारबाट सन्चालनमा आउने भएको छ । स्वदेशि तथा विदेशी पर्यटकलाई लक्ष्ति गरेर हाईग्राउण्ड एड्भेन्चर्सले पोखरामा सन्चालनमा ल्याएको जिप फ्लाएर आइतबारबाट सन्चालनमा आउन लागेको कम्पनीका अप्रेसन प्रमुख दिनेश मर्हजनले जानकरी दिए । साउनबाट अफ्सिजन र कर्मचारीको विदाका लागी बन्द गरेको मर्हजनले बताए । मर्हजनले भने चार्ड पर्व र अन्य समयमा कुनै पनि बेला कर्मचारीलाई विदा नहुने हुदा विदाका लागी पनि बन्द गरेको हो ।

उनले पर्यटकीय सिजन शुरु हुन थालेका कारण सन्चालन गर्न लागेको बताए । उनले दश महिनाको सन्चाल अवधीमा स्वदेशी र विदेशी गरि करिब ५ हजार पर्यटकले जिप फ्लाएरको मजा लिइ सकेका छन् । पर्यटन प्रर्बद्धन संगै व्यापार गर्ने उद्देश्यले नेपालमै पहिलोपटक तीन जना युवा मिलेर एड्भेन्चर मन पराउने पर्यटकहरुलाई लक्षित गर्दै ‘जिप फ्लाएर’ संचालनमा ल्याएको थियो । भरत गोल्छा, शरद गोल्छा र अभिनव तिरुवाल मिलेर करिब १३ करोड रुपैया लागतमा अघिल्लो वर्षको असोजबाट सन्चालमा आएको थियो ।
सराङकोटको टुप्पोबाट हेमजा गाविसको याम्दी सम्म जिप फ्लाएरकै लागी केबल तानिएको छ । सराङकोटको डाँडाबाट २ हजार फिट तल हुईकिँदै करिब १ मिनेट ३० सेकेन्डमा हेम्जासम्म आईपुग्ने गरि बनाईएको जिप फ्लाएर संसारकै सबैभन्दा लामो र अग्लो भएको कम्पनीले दाबी छ । अत्याधुनिक प्रविधिको प्रयोग गरेर निर्माण गरिएको जिप फ्लाएरमा जिपिङको अनुभव लिनका लागी नेपालीहरुले ३ हजार ८ सय ५० रुपैँया तिर्नुपर्छ भने विदेशी पर्यटकहरुले पाँच हजार ८ सय ९० रुपैँया तिर्नुपर्छ ।

म्याग्नेटिक ब्रेकिङ सिस्टम भएको जिप फ्लाएरमा पुर्णतया लक गरिएको केबल प्रयोग भएका कारण कुनै दुर्घटनाको डर भएको कम्पनीको दावी छ । समुद्री सतहबाट पाँच हजार ३२ फिट अग्लो रहेको सराङकोटबाट ३ हजार फिट तल झर्नका लागी जिप फ्लाएरबाट झर्न बढिमा २ मिनेट लाग्ने गर्दछ । यसमा गोल्छा अर्गनाइजेसन र मंगलम समुहको लगानी रहेको छ । नेपाल आउने पर्यटकमध्ये ६० प्रतिशत पर्यटकहरु पोखरा र अन्नपूर्ण पदयात्राका लागि आउने गरेका छन् । पर्यटकको लागि जिप फ्लायर नयाँ गन्तव्य समेत बनेको कम्पनीको दावी छ ।
पोखरमा पनि बन्जीजम्प
पोखरामा जिप फ्लायर सन्चालन गरेको हाईग्राउण्ड एड्भेन्चर्सले कास्कीको हेम्जामा बन्जीजम्प सन्चालन गर्ने भएको छ । जिप फ्लायर सन्चालन भएकै ठाउँमा बन्जीजम्प सन्चालन गर्न लागएको । अग्लो डाडाँ रहेको जिप फ्लायर नजिकैबाट तल खोलामा बन्जीजम्प गर्न मिल्लने गरि काम शुरु गरेको छ । करिब ५५ मिटर अग्लो ठाउँबाट बन्जीजम्प गर्न मिल्ले गरी काम अगाडी बढि रहेको र करिब दुई महिनामा सन्चालमा आउने कम्पनीको दावी छ ।

Chitwan National Park .in Nepal

For a small country, Nepal is incredibly diverse. It has the greatest range of altitudes of any nation on earth, ranging from the earth's highest mountains to subtropical river plains. And as the trading ground and meeting place among several cultures, dozens of different languages are spoken by even more ethnic groups. In general, Nepali parks are not"untouched" environments, but have a long history of use by humans. Many national parks incorporate grazing, farming, wood gathering, survival hunting, and human habitation into their boundaries, as well as tourism and trekking. These uses are not without their tensions and their environmental stresses. But there's also something wonderful about this close association of humans and the natural environment; a trip to a Nepali national park always involves interacting with other cultures as well as with the raw stuff of nature. Royal Chitwan National Park Elephant Safari Nepal's first and most famous national park is situated in the Chitwan Doon or the lowlands of the Inner Terai. Covering an area of 932 sq km. the park includes hilly areas of the Siwalik Range covered by deciduous sal forest. One fifth of the park is made up of the floodplains of the Narayani, Rapti, and the Reu Rivers and is covered by dense tall elephant grass interspersed with riverine forests of silk cotton (kapok), acacia and sisam trees. This ecologically diverse area is the lastremaining home in Nepal for more than 300 of the endangered Asian one-horned rhinoceros and harbours one of the largest populations of the elusive and rare Royal Bengal tiger. Besides rhino and tiger, Chitwan also supports a great variety of flora and fauna. There are four species of deer, including the spotted chittal, leopard, sloth bear, wild boar, rhesus monkey, grey langur monkey, wild dog, small wild cats, the white stockinged gaur (the world's largest wild cattle) and many other smaller animals. The swampy areas and numerous oxbow lakes of Chitwan provide a home for marsh crocodiles. In a stretch of the Narayani river is found one of the few remaining populations of the rare and endangered fish-only eating gharial, or Gangetic crocodile. Here also is found one of the world's four species of freshwater dolphins. For the ornithologist and the amateur bird-watcher the park offers excellent possibilities with more than 450 species recorded. Some of the resident specialities are several species of woodpeckers, hornbills, Bengal florican, and red-headed trogons. Winter birds such as waterfowl, Brahminy duck, pintails and bareheaded geese, amongst many other cold weather visitors are drawn by the sanctuary of the park's rivers. In the summer the forest is alive with nesting migrants such as the fabulous paradise flycatcher, the Indian pitta and parakeets. Entry Fee Per Person Per Entry  For Nepalese Nationals, Rs. 20/- For SAARC Nationals, Rs. 200/- For Other Foreign Nationals, Rs. 500/- Filming Permit Fee (Documentary Films) For Nepalese Nationals, Rs. 5,000/- For SAARC Nationals, Rs. 25,000/- For Other Foreign Nationals, equivalent national currency of US $ 1,000/- Helicopter Landing (Per Landing), Rs. 2,000/- (Note Entrance fee not required for children under 10 years). Access Chitwan is easily accessible from Kathmandu, being well connected by a national highway to Bharatpur and to Sauraha. There are daily fights from October through May to Meghauli airstrip just outside the park boundary. Another exciting alternative is a two to three day raft trip down the Trishuli river to Narayanghat or directly into the western edge of the park. Visitors can stay in one of the several lodges and camps inside or outside the park. Visitors can actively participate in exciting stalks through the forest looking for animals signs. One unique Chitwan experience is elephant back safaris in search of the one-horned rhinoceros, leopard, deer, bear, monkey and crocodile. Few visitors can ever forget the excitement of crashing through 20 feet high elephant grass and sightseeing wildlife. Apart from elephant safaris, the traveller will be happily occupied for several days with nature walks, canoe rides down the park rivers, and land-over drives through the forest.
